The Opportunity

Join the School of Chemistry and play a key role in supporting world-class research and teaching through the delivery of advanced analytical services.

We are seeking an experienced analytical scientist to provide technical leadership and specialist expertise in Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography instrumentation and applications. As a senior member of our analytical services team, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, development and continuous improvement of Mass Spectrometry capabilities that support a diverse community of researchers, students and external users.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of analytical challenges while contributing to the strategic development of the School's instrumentation facilities. You will provide expert technical advice, support user training, maintain high standards of safety and compliance, and help ensure the reliable delivery of analytical services.

Importantly, this position forms part of a small, highly skilled team of Senior Technical Officers who collectively support the School's analytical infrastructure. While Mass Spectrometry will be your primary area of expertise, you will also work closely with colleagues specialising in NMR, X-ray, Chromatography and Spectroscopy, contribute to a collaborative team environment, and provide support to other facilities as required.

About You

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in the operation, maintenance and application of Mass Spectrometry instrumentation in a research, analytical or teaching environment.
  • Broad analytical instrumentation knowledge and a willingness to work across multiple techniques and facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver high-quality user support.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working effectively with researchers, students and external clients.
  • A collaborative approach and the flexibility to support colleagues and shared analytical services across the School.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced analytical scientist who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with teamwork, service delivery and continuous improvement. Together with a dedicated team of analytical specialists, you will help deliver the facilities and expertise that underpin the School's research and teaching success.
