The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a Research Fellow to join the School of Physics and Astronomy at Monash University. This position is an exciting opportunity to join the team to work on the astrophysics of transients. This will include research related to searches for r-process element production in two different astrophysical sites: 1) kilonovae produced by neutron star mergers, and 2) collapsars produced by rapidly rotating massive stars that collapse and launch outflows rich in neutrons. 

The research fellow will be expected to connect to the broader activities of the Monash observational transient group, the national OzGrav Centre of Excellence transients working group, and international collaborators in supernova physics, stellar evolution, nucleosynthesis, and multi-messenger astronomy. 

To be appointable to this role, you must hold a doctoral qualification in astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field and have experience with transient astronomy, including analysis of observational data, comparison of multi-wavelength data against model predictions, and/or demonstrated knowledge of multi-messenger science. 

The successful candidate will also have demonstrated analytical and manuscript preparation skills and have a track record of refereed research publications, well-developed planning and organisational skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
