The Opportunity

The next Dean will inherit a Faculty with exceptional strengths, distinctive momentum and extraordinary potential. The opportunity is to energise, connect and position the Faculty for an exciting new era of growth, influence and achievement.

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice-President, the Dean will set the vision, direction and tone for the Faculty, with full accountability for performance, culture and outcomes.

The Dean will be an influential contributor to Monash's senior leadership team, forging powerful partnerships across faculties, institutes and campuses, and ensuring the Faculty of the Arts is deeply connected to the broader University mission. Externally, the role will build momentum with government, industry, cultural institutions, philanthropy, alumni and community partners to unlock new possibilities, amplify impact and elevate the Faculty's profile nationally and internationally.

Leading a complex and diverse academic community, the Dean will champion a culture of excellence, ambition and collaboration. They will be visible, accessible and deeply engaged with staff and students, supporting wellbeing and belonging while creating the conditions for bold ideas, strong performance and shared success. They will bring energy, optimism and clear direction, inspiring the Faculty to build on its considerable strengths and pursue its future with confidence.

The Person

We are seeking an accomplished and internationally recognised academic leader with a distinguished record of research excellence and a deep commitment to the humanities, arts and social sciences. The successful candidate will bring the strategic capability to shape and deliver a compelling vision, foster a high-performing and collaborative culture, and champion excellence across research, education and engagement.

They will have a strong track record of building partnerships, supporting interdisciplinary initiatives, securing external opportunities and advocating effectively for staff, students and the broader Faculty community. Equally important will be their ability to navigate complexity, embrace innovation and emerging technologies, and position the Faculty for sustained impact, relevance and success in a rapidly changing global environment.
