Whyalla Hospital

Whyalla Hospital and Health Services is a large regional hospital comprising of 75 beds including flex beds and a designated High Dependency Unit. The hospital provides a wide range of services, including emergency, medical and surgical, maternity, rehabilitation, mental health, and outpatients. Whyalla Hospital’s Cancer Resource Centre is one of the largest in regional South Australia. It includes six chemotherapy chairs, outpatient care and counselling services, reducing the need to travel outside of the region for care. It is also, one of three stroke services in regional SA, providing specialised treatment for suitable stroke patients 24/7, supported by metropolitan stroke units. Our staff work in close partnership with community health services and Aboriginal health providers, to ensure that optimum care is delivered to all areas of the community. Port Augusta Hospital and Regional Health Service

The Port Augusta Hospital and Regional Health Service is a large regional hospital that provides a wide range of services including emergency, general and surgical, maternity, outpatient, and outreach services. The hospital has 58 beds including flex and monitored beds. The Port Augusta Hospital also has chemotherapy services and has a Renal Dialysis Unit and a Paediatric Department, both of which are the largest outside of Adelaide. Our staff work in close partnership with community health services and Aboriginal health providers, to ensure that optimum care is delivered to all areas of the community. About the Role:

Responsible for managing the care of all patients allocated to you, you will work in collaboration with fellow Rural Generalists, Specialist Consultants, local General Practitioners, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals. You will have support from the Head of Unit, the Executive Director of Medical Services and junior medical officers (interns and PGY2+s). Contributing to the provision of safe, best practice and efficient clinical care, you will respond to hospital Code Blue calls as required and participate in a 24-hour, 7 day per week roster. As part of your role, you will contribute to the supervision, teaching and training of junior medical staff and other health professionals and actively participate in continuous quality improvement activities.

You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of Consultant Specialists including on-site Paediatricians, General Surgeons, Physicians, Obstetrician and Gynaecologists, Anaesthetists and Orthopaedic Surgeons. The Flinders and Upper North Network are a part of the Flinders and Upper North Training Network and work closely with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Adelaide Rural Clinical School and local GP Practices.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
  • Fellowship of the Australian College Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or the Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP) and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of adult and paediatric emergencies and inpatient services.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, exercising a high degree of professional judgment and clinical competence.
  • Highly developed skills in communicating, negotiating and mediating along with sound problem solving and decision-making abilities.
