The Dietetics & Nutrition Department is responsible for the provision of consultative counselling and education services and provision of a SALHN dietetic food service. The Dietetic Allied Health Assistant is expected to prioritise workload, support the Dietetics & Nutrition team, Food Service, Nursing Staff and patients concerning the provision of special diets to patients.

The Allied Health Assistant performs a range of duties in the dietetic food service area, related to patients on special diets to ensure they receive appropriate food items and nutritional supplements as required.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Director of Nutrition and Dietetics (DivRAP), the Dietetic Allied Health Assistant role is responsible for:

  • Translating meal plans prepared by dietitians into patients’ food requirements, and using the Computerised Foodservice system to order meals on a daily basis
  • Assist in the maintenance of stock and ordering of nutritional supplies
  • Monitoring patient response to nutritional therapies and reporting to the supervising AHP
  • Apply screening assessments, treatments and use standardised assessment tools as directed by their supervising dietitian
  • Provide basic education to patients/groups of patients as directed by AHP staff on discreet topics

About you:

  • Ability to organise time to complete daily tasks, and work within their limits and to recognise when situations are unsafe for patients
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills – able to demonstrate the ability to work with people from a variety of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to empathise with and motivate people
  • Must be eligible for or be willing to undertake a Certificate 3 in Allied Health Assistance or equivalent
  • Demonstrated aptitude for work in a healthcare environment
