The Exercise Physiologist participates as a member of the Virtual Rehabilitation Ward Team ensuring optimal care and outcomes by providing a comprehensive range of therapy services to patients receiving supported early discharge and home rehabilitation within the southern metropolitan area.

The Exercise Physiologist may also provide specialist services to medical and surgical inpatients to facilitate early rehabilitation and discharge. Additionally, may provide specialist services to patients living in rural and remote areas of South Australia utilising technology such as videoconferencing to provide intervention.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Virtual Rehabilitation Ward and the Director, Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology, duties for this role may include:

  • Communicating with patients’ family, carers and other service providers
  • Planning and implementing intervention programs including using a broad range of technologies including iPads, videoconferencing equipment and therapeutic exercise apps
  • Prescribing and arranging for the provision of appropriate equipment
  • Developing and maintaining relevant procedures for home based management in conjunction with the Manager, Virtual Rehabilitation Ward
  • Documenting assessment findings and interventions
  • Linking patients and carers with relevant community resources and services

About you:

  • High levels of responsibility and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Experience as a clinician in the assessment and provision of high-quality rehabilitation to clients with a variety of neurological or orthopaedic conditions
  • Proven experience in delivering high quality and safe care consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Service Standards
  • Must hold a current drivers licence
  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification, usually in human movements, inclusive of the exercise physiology elective and eligible for accreditation from Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA)
