Are you a passionate and experienced nurse ready to take on a leadership role? Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service is seeking a dedicated Nurse Unit Manager for our Private Ward to coordinate high-quality patient care and support our nursing team in delivering exceptional health services.

About the Role:

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will leverage your clinical knowledge and experience to lead and manage nursing and multidisciplinary team activities. Your focus will be on ensuring continuity and quality of patient care while fostering a positive work culture and developing team performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate patient care delivery in the Private Ward, ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality outcomes.
  • Lead and mentor nursing staff, fostering professional development and reflective practice.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices to improve patient care and service delivery.
  • Manage resources effectively, including recruitment, staffing, leave management, and financial planning.
  • Implement and monitor quality improvement processes and risk management strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a learning environment, supporting ongoing education for nursing staff.
  • Lead change initiatives and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of best practices.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse or Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, holding a current practicing certificate.
  • A minimum of 3 years post-registration experience in nursing, with demonstrated competence in relevant practice areas.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including effective communication, conflict resolution, and team-building abilities.
  • Experience in supervising students, enrolled nurses, and less experienced registered nurses/midwives.
  • Ability to review and enhance models of care to ensure person- and family-centered approaches.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility and creativity in addressing challenges within the clinical setting.
  • Commitment to promoting consumer engagement initiatives and leading change management processes.
