About the Role

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in mental health care? We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at the Central Adelaide (CALHN), 24-Bed Inpatient Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (IMHRU). In this dynamic leadership role, you will deliver high-quality, recovery-oriented psychiatric services that are consumer-focused and grounded in best practice. You’ll work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support positive clinical outcomes, drive service excellence, and contribute to teaching, supervision, and ongoing quality improvement. Your role will also include guiding junior medical staff, participating in research, and supporting a whole-of-system recovery approach that promotes independence, skill-building and community integration for consumers. If you’re passionate about working in a trauma-informed, strengths-based environment that values cultural diversity and human rights, we’d love to hear from you.

Please refer to the role description for more information about the role and any essential educational/vocational qualifications that may be required.

About You

You are a passionate and skilled Consultant Psychiatrist who brings a strong clinical foundation, a commitment to recovery-oriented care, and a collaborative spirit to everything you do. With a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health rehabilitation, you thrive in multidisciplinary settings and are driven to deliver high-quality outcomes for consumers and their families.

To be successful in this role:

  • You will combine your clinical expertise with strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, and a genuine dedication to consumer-centred care.
  • You hold Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, are a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and maintain active participation in continuing professional development.
  • You demonstrate extensive clinical experience in mental health, with a strong track record of applying sound clinical judgement and leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
  • You are an effective communicator with proven ability to supervise, mentor and teach medical staff while maintaining professional integrity and fostering a supportive workplace culture.
  • You bring a thorough understanding of national mental health policies, recovery-based practice, quality improvement principles, and the use of ICT in clinical care.
