About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Child Development Unit team as a Senior Occupational Therapist, where you will be responsible for:

  • Conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments for young people and children with developmental differences, including fine motor, play, self-care, and sensory processing challenges, using both formal and informal assessment tools when necessary.
  • Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, and evidence-based treatment recommendations for young people and children with complex developmental differences referred to the Child Development Unit.
  • Work with professional independence and high clinical competence, using reflective practice and integrating new evidence-based techniques in the treatment of children with developmental delays.
  • Offer consultative services to community and regional-based Occupational Therapists, as well as professionals at other child development units, sharing expertise and collaborating on client management.
  • Develop and implement service delivery models grounded in evidence-based practices, while working closely with families, multidisciplinary teams, and community agencies to ensure integrated care.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience working as a paediatric occupational therapist.
  • Ability to undertake specialist assessment of children with complex developmental problems and to understand highly complex clinical presentations by applying knowledge of child development processes, theory and practice
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of standard diagnostic systems and guidelines (e.g. National Guidelines for the Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder; Developmental Coordination Disorder).
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in a specialised area of practice including skills to teach and supervise a wide range of students at both the under-graduate and post-graduate levels.
