Staff are invited to express interest in undertaking this role and must be available for Intermittent periods of leave throughout 2025
The Clinical Nurse/Midwife (Infection Prevention & Control) assists in the provision of Infection Prevention & Control advice to operational teams within the divisions on the identification, prevention, management and control of infections. The Clinical Nurse/Midwife supports the Infection Prevention & Control Advanced Nurse Consultant in the implementation and evaluation of the WCHN Infection Prevention and Control Program and undertakes specific activities including:
- Assist with surveillance of Health Care Associated Infections (HAI) incidents and outcomes of patient care within all areas across the organisation
- Undertake investigation and control of HAI outbreaks in collaboration with the Infection Prevention Advanced Nurse Consultant/Infectious Diseases and Divisional staff
- Support the delivery of Infection Prevention and Control training, education sessions and training tools
Support the Infection Prevention & Control audit programs - Assist with the development of Infection Prevention & Control procedures
The Clinical Nurse/Midwife (IPC) is accountable for own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff. The Clinical Nurse/Midwife(IPC) will work with and ensure other nurses/midwives also work in collaboration with other health professionals and in partnership with women, children and their families and other agencies to ensure optimum health outcomes
It is essential that applicants for this role have:
Educational/Vocational Qualifications
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills:
- Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet set timelines, whilst working under minimal supervision.
- Ability to be creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within the clinical setting.
Experience
- Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience.
- Demonstrated competence in the relevant area of nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice.
- Experience in the leadership and direction of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.
- In developing and implementing nursing practice procedures
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial agreements, standards, codes, ethics and competency standards.
- Knowledge of Quality Improvement Systems as applied to a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of contemporary nursing/midwifery and health care issues.
