About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Medical Director – Clinical Governance to join our leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Executive Director, Medical Services and Clinical Governance, this pivotal role will lead the Safety and Quality Unit with a strong focus on driving continuous improvement in the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care across CALHN. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping and executing strategies and projects initiated by CALHN and SA Health, while also taking the lead in addressing key areas of clinical concern as identified by executive leadership.

You will bring deep expertise in clinical governance, an ability to work across complex healthcare systems, and a proven track record of engaging clinicians in quality improvement initiatives. Your leadership will inspire accountability, continuous learning, and a shared commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong clinical leadership with the ability to engage, support and influence clinicians at all levels to promote a culture of safety, review, and continuous improvement.
  • Extensive experience in clinical governance, including risk management, quality systems, and interpretation of clinical outcome data to guide service improvements.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, consult effectively, and manage complex issues involving medico-legal matters, coronial cases and complaints.
  • Strategic and operational capability, including expertise in aligning clinical services with evidence-based guidelines, driving organisational change, and contributing to CALHN’s strategic vision.
