About the role: 

Reporting to the Advanced Nurse Unit Manager, this role is responsible for advancing the aims and objectives of research programs within Flinders Ophthalmology. This multifaceted role will encompass engaging in comprehensive discussions with referrers, patients, and clients, accessing records as needed, and maintaining research records and data. You'll work closely with Aboriginal Health staff, clinical teams, and research leads to collect data, engage with patients, and contribute to meaningful change in cultural safety and health equity. Duties for the role will include: 

  • Provide proficient, person centred, clinical nursing/midwifery care and/or individual case management to patients/clients in a defined clinical area,
  • Assists and supports the Nurse/Midwife Unit Manager or equivalent in management, clinical, and education activities,
  • Assist in identification of potentially eligible patients for clinical trials and research. 
  • Ensuring eligible patients receive written information prior to joining clinical trials or research.
  • Ensuring informed consent from patients who meet criteria for research has been obtained.
  • Write up results and contribute to documents leading to research publication

About you:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate,
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in the care and management of patients undergoing Ophthalmology interventions if relevant to the research,
  • Experience with dealing with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds,
  • Experience in research, ophthalmology, or Aboriginal health is desirable,
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to improving patient outcomes.
