Join Our Team as a Senior Scientist in Research – Lead Innovation and Excellence in Rural Health

Are you a research leader with the vision and expertise to transform rural health outcomes? As Senior Scientist in Research, you will play a pivotal role in advancing RMCLHN’s strategy to position the Riverland Academy of Clinical Excellence (RACE) as a national and international leader in rural health research. Your leadership will strengthen research governance, foster strategic partnerships, and deliver innovative projects that improve patient care and enhance RMCLHN’s reputation as a destination for clinical career growth.

About the Role:

You will lead the RACE Research Unit, setting research strategies, priorities, work standards, and resource allocation to achieve the goals outlined in the RACE Research Plan (2024–2028). Working collaboratively with RMCLHN Executive, other LHNs, universities, and research organisations, you will develop, manage, and coordinate programs that elevate South Australia’s position as a high-quality clinical research environment.

Your focus areas will include:

  • Rural Health Research: Advancing studies that inform clinical practice and improve rural community health.
  • Research Leadership and Culture: Building workforce capability and fostering collaboration to achieve research excellence.
  • Priority Research Resources: Accelerating access to funding and enabling high-impact research.
  • Integration of Research into Practice: Embedding evidence into policies, systems, and services for consumer benefit.
  • Consumer Access to Clinical Research: Expanding access to innovative therapies through clinical trials.

This role offers flexibility, with the incumbent able to be based at any RMCLHN site and requires regular travel to both Murray Bridge and Berri to work closely with stakeholders and teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • PhD and extensive expertise in research.
  • Recognised as a national or international research specialist.
  • High level of expertise and experience in implementing significant research programs with a comprehensive knowledge of clinical and non-clinical research.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading clinical and non-clinical research programs, managing budgets, supervising higher degree students and working with multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional teams both nationally and internationally.
  • Expertise in health research funding, regulatory compliance, and research innovation.
