Overview:

  • The Principal Policy Officer leads and develops implementation and evaluation plans to deliver priority actions in the South Australian Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategy and provides high level expert strategic advice on alcohol and other drug population health policy and programs to senior Preventive Health SA staff, including the Chief Executive, Directors and Managers.
  • The Principal Policy Officer provides expert evidence-based alcohol and other drug population health advice and policy responses, as well as preparation of ministerial briefings, discussion papers, cabinet submissions and reports to inform legislative change, policy development, project planning, implementation and evaluation for Preventive Health SA. The role requires the incumbent to translate data and research into innovative, evidence-based policy and programmatic responses.
  • The Principal Policy Officer develops and utilises relationships with stakeholders, including through Public Health Partnership Authority Agreements across State Government, non-government sector, the university sector and private enterprises, to facilitate the engagement of stakeholders and progress strategies consistent with preventing and reducing alcohol and other drug harms and improving public health outcomes in South Australia.

  • A ‘National Police Certificate’ NPC (also known as a ‘Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check’ NCCHC)  for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
