About the Opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join in Metropolitan Youth Health, a service of Health and Recovery, Trauma Safety Services (HaRTSS) team as Medical Consultant, where you will be responsible for:
- Providing high-quality, evidence-based primary health care to vulnerable young people, including Aboriginal youth and those under Guardianship.
- Offering expert medical advice within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to holistic, care coordination, case management and client care planning.
- Supporting professional development and supervision of medical team members and contribute to clinical education and training.
- Engaging young people, families, and communities in care delivery, promoting collaborative, culturally sensitive health outcomes.
- Driving continuous improvement through participation in service evaluation, quality assurance, and youth-focused research initiatives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- MBBS or equivalent, with specialist registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Clinical expertise in primary health care, with demonstrated ability to manage complex cases independently and collaboratively.
- Experience working with vulnerable youth populations, including Aboriginal young people and those under Guardianship.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with young people, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of youth health needs, including social determinants of health and relevant legislative and ethical responsibilities.
- Proven ability to problem-solve, negotiate, and prioritise tasks in a dynamic, multidisciplinary work environment.
About MYH:
- MYH works on prevention, early intervention and youth specialist health response measures regarding adverse childhood events (ACE) and their impact on young people’s health, including speciality programs for young parents
- This position is located at the clinical health service location of MYH West (which is also the home base for the MYH Young Parents. Program), where multiple support programs run, including the Talking Realities FLO Program and various grant funded Young Parents support Programs.
- MYH programs at this site, focus on building and strengthening safe and positive relationships for all young people accessing our health services but with special focus on young parents and their children.
- Building these protective factors improve children and young people’s resilience and reduce the impacts of ACE’s on their future health and disrupting intergenerational cycles.
