The Senior Exercise Physiologist providing specialist services, leadership and exercise programs to enhance mental health consumer wellbeing within the unit.
About the role:
The Senior Exercise Physiologist promotes the value of exercise physiology within an acute mental health setting and supports the development of a broader physical health focus within the unit.
Duties for the role will include:
- Provide specialist clinical exercise physiology services in line with best-practice principles for enhancing physical and mental well-being within an acute mental health setting.
- Assume the lead role in initiating, participating in and supporting the development of research activities relevant to mental health recovery and exercise physiology and disseminating the results of research.
- Represent exercise physiology within and outside the Margaret Tobin Centre at discussions, working parties and committees, as required.
- Integrate contemporary information and evidence with personal experience to support the decision making, innovative thinking and objective analysis that is expected at this level, e.g. expert clinical knowledge to provide management activities that contribute to, improve, and optimise clinical care.
- Build positive and sustainable links to community exercise facilities/programs to support long-term maintenance of exercise behaviours.
About you:
- Extensive experience in the provision of clinical exercise physiology services to clients with a broad range of illnesses and disabilities.
- High levels of responsibility, initiative and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and delegate appropriately. Includes the ability to supervise students and other Exercise Physiologists.
- Demonstrated competence in the application of a wide range of assessments and therapeutic interventions to clients with complex needs, in particular adult consumers with severe mental illness.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership within a discrete unit, including program evaluation and service development.
