Overview:
- The Metropolitan Referral Unit is designed to streamline the access to a range of SA Health programs that support immediate hospital avoidance and early hospital discharge from SA Health public hospitals. The unit uses up to date information about criteria and capacity of services to facilitate patients to get the “right service, first time, every time” to support their care in the community.
- The Metropolitan Referral Unit Liaison works with Southern, Central, Northern and Women’s and Children Local Health Network staff to admit patients to SA Community Care post acute programs. The position focuses on program liaison functions related to patient discharge planning referrals, assessment of eligibility for community services, facilitation of referrals, generation of clinical care plans for community care, general enquiries and communication with referrers and the external contracted service providers.
- The Metropolitan Referral Unit Liaison manages the day to day referrals and contact with stakeholders under the supervision of the MRU Nurse Unit Manager RN3 and Nursing Director- Program Director RN5. The Metropolitan Referral Unit Liaison (RN2 Clinical Nurse) is accountable for own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff.
- Provide nursing and/or midwifery services in a variety of health service settings which has been consolidated by experience and/or further study with staff at this level developing from competent to proficient practitioners.
- Accepts accountability for their own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff.
- The Clinical Nurse role at this level continues to be predominantly clinical in nature; however, employees are assigned appropriate portfolios. The allocation of portfolio responsibilities should be negotiated with each employee and be consistent with the career development plan for the employee as determined by their performance review/development plan.

Criminal History Screening Requirement
- A ‘National Police Certificate’ NPC (also known as a ‘Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check’ NCCHC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment)
- A DHS ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC) is required for this position.
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
