About the role
As the Mammography Tutor, you will play a vital role in building the clinical capability and confidence of the next generation of breast imaging professionals. You will provide expert hands-on mammography training to BSSA staff and postgraduate students from across South Australia, Australia and internationally, based at the Mammography Education Centre—a collaborative learning environment jointly operated by BreastScreen SA (BSSA) and the University of South Australia. Your work will directly contribute to strengthening high-quality breast imaging services and ensuring excellence in clinical practice.
You will also play a key part in designing, delivering and evaluating orientation and continuing professional development programs for Radiographers, Mammographers and Radiographer Assistants across BSSA. In partnership with the Advanced Clinical Educator, you will contribute to the creation and delivery of training packages, assessments and educational resources that support consistent, evidence-based practice. You are an experienced and motivated mammography professional who thrives in both clinical and educational environments. With strong communication skills, advanced technical expertise and a passion for developing others, you are confident teaching complex concepts, guiding staff and students, and contributing to high-quality breast imaging services. You bring a collaborative mindset, professional integrity and the ability to work both independently and as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications – An appropriate Diagnostic Radiography degree or equivalent, providing eligibility for accreditation with the Australian Institute of Radiography (pre-2012) and/or registration with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (post-2012).

Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, ability to manage confidential matters sensitively, capacity to work autonomously or within a team, and the ability to resolve conflict professionally while engaging positively with staff at all levels.

Experience – Minimum of two years’ mammography experience, supervisory or leadership experience in a healthcare environment, demonstrated capability in delivering training using adult learning principles, experience preparing and presenting education sessions, and proven ability to prioritise, analyse complex clinical issues and contribute to policy and standards development.

Knowledge – Detailed understanding of standard and advanced mammography procedures, breast anatomy and pathology, equipment operation, biopsy and assessment techniques, quality assurance processes, competency-based learning, emerging imaging technologies, radiographer safety responsibilities and relevant medico-legal requirements.
