About the role: 

Reporting to the Coding Operations Manager, some of your duties include:

  • Translating the narrative descriptions of diagnoses and procedures into valid, accurate and complete ICD-10-AM codes which reflect the complete clinical picture of the patient, reason for admission and treatment administered
  • Understanding and being able to explain diagnostic complexity levels (DCLs) to other staff (coders and clinicians) in relation to the current AR- DRG version
  • Facilitating timely data submissions by meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as internal and external deadlines, quality assurance against Performance Indicator for Coding Quality (PICQ) and other Local Health Network KPIs
  • Providing assistance, using extensive communication skills, to medical and other health care personnel regarding accurate medical record documentation for clear interpretation for translation into codes
  • Updating skills and knowledge by participating in relevant courses, including Coding Seminars, workshops and forums for continuing and further education
  • Correcting the Admitted Patient Care (APC) error analysis report for SALHN by following up the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and checking codes

About you:

  • Successful completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding course in ICD-10-AM (current edition) or equivalent, together with demonstrated competency in ICD-10-AM coding
  • Minimum 12 months coding experience within a clinical coding service, preferably in a multidisciplinary health setting
  • Competency to code an average number of records per day, including those of complexity, as appropriately set by the Manager, Clinical Coding Service, meeting national accuracy benchmarks
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team with a willingness to participate in continuing education and development

This is a single vacancy, with two possible appointment classifications. The successful applicants will be appointed in the position appropriate to their skills, qualifications, and experience.

Please note that this position is multi-classed as either a ASO4 or ASO5 and classification will be determined by qualifications and experience.
