About the role

As an Associate Nurse Unit Manager, you will play a key role in supporting high-quality nursing and/or midwifery care across the ward, unit or service. Drawing on your clinical experience and growing professional proficiency, you will provide safe, evidence-based care while acting as a positive role model for less experienced staff. You’ll accept accountability for your own practice standards, contribute to a culture of continuous learning, and help ensure continuity and consistency of care for patients through strong communication and collaboration.

In this position, you will work closely with the Nurse or Midwife Unit Manager to support effective leadership within the team. You’ll contribute to implementing practice changes, assisting with daily operational management, and carrying a designated portfolio that may include staffing, rostering, performance management, recruitment, leave coordination and resource planning. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated clinician looking to strengthen their leadership skills, influence positive practice outcomes, and contribute to a supportive, patient-centred environment.

About You

You’re a confident and capable nursing professional who brings strong clinical experience, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to supporting high-quality care and effective team leadership.

  • Clinically qualified and experienced, with current (or eligible) registration, at least three years’ post-registration experience or Clinical Nurse/Midwife classification, and demonstrated competence in the relevant clinical specialty.

  • A supportive leader and communicator, skilled in problem solving, negotiation, conflict resolution and supervising students and less experienced staff within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Organised, adaptable and proactive, able to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision and bring creativity and flexibility to challenges within a dynamic healthcare environment.

  • Knowledgeable and committed to best practice, with a strong understanding of legislation, standards, ethics, quality improvement systems, and contemporary nursing and midwifery issues.
