About the role
As the Medical Scientist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic services through the application of advanced scientific knowledge and growing professional expertise. You will perform a range of standard professional tasks with a high level of competence, drawing on your specialised understanding of the discipline to support accurate testing, analysis and reporting. Your work will involve applying specialist scientific judgement to both established and emerging methodologies, ensuring that diagnostic procedures are performed to the highest standard.
In this dynamic and increasingly complex environment, you will provide professional services to a diverse client base, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute to continuous improvement within the laboratory. You will also support quality management processes, including the validation of Quality Control activities at a supervisory level under direction from management. Educational/Vocational Qualifications – You must meet the NPAAC requirements for a medical scientist, holding an approved AQF7 degree with >70% pathology-relevant subjects, an equivalent overseas qualification recognised by AIMS, or an historical associate qualification from the Australian Institute of Medical Technologists.

Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills – Strong scientific expertise; ability to work independently; capacity to motivate and support teamwork; proven technical skill acquisition; excellent communication; strong organisational and prioritisation skills; high-quality testing capability; effective problem-solving; equipment troubleshooting; and commitment to confidentiality, customer service and professional conduct.

Experience – Demonstrated laboratory experience including quality control and assurance interpretation, experience with software applications, and a proven history of contributing to the delivery of high-quality pathology services.

Knowledge – Extensive knowledge of a relevant laboratory discipline; strong understanding of laboratory principles, concepts and scientific practice; and well-developed knowledge of quality procedures.
