About the Role

The Eyre and Far North Local Health Network is seeking an experienced and strategic Midwifery Director (RN/M5.2) to provide executive-level leadership and governance across midwifery services within the region.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, you will have corporate responsibility for the leadership, governance, and professional practice standards of midwifery services, including oversight of birthing services located in Port Lincoln and Ceduna.

This senior leadership role is responsible for driving innovation, workforce sustainability, service improvement, and evidence-based models of care to meet the needs of women, babies, families, and communities across the EFNLHN.

This position is based within the Eyre and Far North Local Health Network, with the location negotiable. The EFNLHN covers a vast and diverse region including Port Lincoln, Ceduna, and surrounding communities across the Eyre Peninsula and Far North of South Australia.

Key Duties

  • Provide strategic, professional, and corporate leadership for midwifery services across EFNLHN.
  • Oversee governance, clinical practice standards, and quality and safety of midwifery care.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of contemporary midwifery models of care.
  • Provide leadership in workforce planning, recruitment, retention, education, and professional development.
  • Manage human, financial, and material resources within the scope of the role.
  • Lead innovation, change management, and service reform to address emerging service and workforce needs.
  • Build and sustain positive, culturally safe, and patient-centred work environments.
  • Provide high-level professional advice to senior leaders and contribute to state-wide and national midwifery initiatives.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal communities and partner organisations.

About You

  • You are a highly capable and values-driven senior midwifery leader who demonstrates:
  • Current registration (or eligibility) as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • A minimum of five years post-registration experience, with demonstrated leadership or management experience in healthcare.
  • Strong strategic, operational, and financial management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead complex services, manage change, and deliver quality improvement initiatives.
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A commitment to culturally safe practice and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Experience in leading education, workforce development, and professional practice frameworks.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in nursing, midwifery, health services management, or a related field (desirable).
