Overview:

The Director, System Access and Capacity is a senior leadership role within the Department for Health and Wellbeing with responsibility for leading system wide change to improve timely access to care across South Australia’s hospital system, particularly emergency care.

The role provides strategic and operational leadership to implement the actions and priorities of the Health Chief Executives Council, with a focus on reducing delays in ambulance transfer of care and improving access to emergency care.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • leading the design and delivery of system wide initiatives to improve access, patient flow, and capacity across the hospital system
  • providing authoritative leadership across multiple workstreams to deliver agreed reform priorities
  • overseeing the System Access and Capacity Team and ensuring programs of work are delivered effectively and on time
  • working in close partnership with clinical, operational, and executive leaders across the health system to drive consistent and sustainable improvement
  • monitoring progress and outcomes to ensure initiatives deliver measurable improvements for patients and the health system

The Director works closely with Health System Reform Group, the State Clinical Lead Ramping and Flow, and senior leaders across SA Health to co-design, develop, and lead the delivery of initiatives aligned to strategic objectives.

Drawing on significant health system and operational leadership experience, the Director will engage broadly across the Department for Health and Wellbeing, Local Health Networks, SA Ambulance Service, and other health agencies to translate strategy into practice and support the achievement of required outcomes.

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)
