About the role
As a Pre-Analytical Operational Services Officer, you will be a key contributor to the smooth and efficient operation of the Pre-Analytical Services team, supporting critical diagnostic services that directly impact patient care. In this hands-on role, you will deliver a high standard of customer service and care to patients while undertaking phlebotomy, specimen collection and specimen management duties. You will also be responsible for accurate administration and data entry using Laboratory Information Systems, ensuring patient and testing information is recorded precisely and on time.
You will play an essential role in managing specimens throughout the pre-analytical stage, ensuring samples are correctly received, sorted, prepared, stored and transported in line with defined conditions. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will help deliver reliable samples for testing, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment. This role also requires a professional and responsive approach to managing internal and external customer enquiries, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment as part of a collaborative team.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively, listen respectfully, and build positive relationships with staff and clients at all levels.

Proven attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively under general direction, maintaining high standards of accuracy, reliability and performance in a high-throughput setting.

Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service, patient confidentiality, and safe work practices, supported by sound knowledge of WHS, infection control and NATA requirements.

Relevant experience in a hospital or pathology specimen collection or laboratory environment, with confident use of Laboratory Information Systems and a proactive approach to ongoing professional development.
