About the role

The Senior Pharmacist Community Mental Health & Mental Health Hospital in the Home provides expert medicines advice and consultancy to the community mental health service around the use of psychotropics for people with complex mental health conditions who are living in the community. This also includes taking a proactive role in medication safety and governance throughout the service. The Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MH HITH) service aims to support the care of people who would otherwise require a hospital admission with the Senior Pharmacist providing a clinical pharmacy service for this team and their consumers.

As a Senior Pharmacist, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred pharmacy services within your designated area. Working with a high degree of professional autonomy, you’ll provide expert medicines information and therapeutic advice to patients, medical and nursing staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team. Your work will support safe, evidence-based decision-making and contribute to the best possible health outcomes, guided by professional standards, hospital policies and contemporary pharmacy practice.

You’ll take responsibility for the effective organisation and day-to-day operation of your area, driving quality use of medicines through safe, efficient and cost-effective practices. While the role has no direct reports, you may provide day-to-day supervision and support to pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, technicians, interns, students and administrative staff, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment. Building strong relationships across the hospital and with community and primary health care providers, you’ll be a trusted clinical resource and a valued contributor to high-quality patient care.

About You

You’re an experienced hospital pharmacist who combines strong clinical expertise with confident leadership, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to patient-centred care. You thrive in complex healthcare environments and are motivated to contribute to high-quality, safe and effective pharmacy services.

  • Qualified and registered with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (or equivalent) and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Pharmacy Board of Australia

  • Proven hospital pharmacy experience, with demonstrated leadership, supervisory or management capability in a clinical setting

  • Strong communicator and problem solver, able to analyse information, exercise independent judgement and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams

  • Highly organised and detail-focused, with the ability to meet tight deadlines, lead service improvements and support the supervision, education and development of others
