About the role
The Clinical Mental Health Nurse is accountable for delivering high-quality mental health care to children, adolescents and families through assessment, counselling and education, while ensuring safe practice, collaboration, staff support, quality improvement and policy alignment.
Key duties of the role
- Direct delivery of proficient mental health nursing clinical care to clients and their families using evidence-based practice
- Ensure services are delivered in a culturally responsive manner
- Contributes to consumer recovery and optimal mental health outcomes
- Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and non-government organisations
- Supports, guides and educates other staff using clinical expertise
- Leads and participates in research, quality improvement and policy development activities
Skills and Experience
- Registered or eligible for registration as a nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved mental health course or hold a qualification in mental health practice.
- Registered Nurse with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience
- Demonstrated ability to conduct mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions of a complex nature with children, adolescents with emotional and behavioural difficulties,
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work with individuals and families for positive mental health outcomes and to foster productive working relationships across disciplines
- Experience in leadership and direction of student Nurses, and less experienced staff
