About the role
The Anatomical Pathology directorate across RAH, Frome Road, FMC, WCH and TQEH is establishing a TGO2 / MeS-1 Talent Pool to support high-quality diagnostic and mortuary services across multiple sites. In these hands-on roles, you’ll contribute technical and scientific expertise across histopathology, cytopathology and mortuary services, performing routine and complex diagnostic testing and applying established protocols to examine, describe and dissect surgical and biopsy specimens. You’ll play a valued part in delivering safe, accurate and timely services that directly support patient care, clinicians and pathologists across South Australia.
Working as part of collaborative, multidisciplinary teams, you’ll engage with pathologists, scientists, technicians and hospital staff, as well as coronial services, funeral directors and external health professionals where required. You’ll contribute to quality assurance, NATA accreditation and continuous improvement, while supporting training and the ongoing development of colleagues. This talent pool offers varied exposure across sites and specialties, making it an ideal opportunity for technical officers and early-career medical scientists seeking meaningful work, professional growth and the chance to make a genuine impact in Anatomical Pathology.
About you
You’re a qualified and capable anatomical pathology professional who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative mindset to delivering high-quality diagnostic and mortuary services. This mixed classification opportunity is well suited to an experienced Technical Officer or an early-career Medical Scientist who values precision, teamwork and making a meaningful contribution to patient care; with appointment made based on your qualifications, experience and demonstrated capability.
- Recognised qualifications aligned with NPAAC requirements, with eligibility to practise as a Technical Officer (TGO2) or Medical Scientist (MeS-1)
- Demonstrated technical capability across histopathology and/or cytopathology, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, specialised stains, frozen sections, immunohistochemistry or cytology preparation
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise workloads, meet clinical deadlines and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision
- Quality-focused and collaborative, communicating professionally with pathologists and colleagues while supporting accreditation standards, confidentiality, safety and continuous improvement
