About the role
The Senior Allied Health Assistant (AHA) (Orthotics & Prosthetics) role supports children 0–18 with acute and chronic conditions. Delivers advanced AHA services under AHP supervision, assists with assessment, intervention, and device provision, while supporting operations and mentoring AHAs.
Key duties of the role
- Deliver high quality care as directed by the therapist to complex patients under the care of various medical and surgical teams.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff and students, including the review and updating of orientation documents and local work procedures.
- Monitor equipment and consumable stock levels, completes purchase orders and monitors item delivery.
- Contribute to a team environment, which promotes positivity, learning and development, safety and welfare of employees, acknowledges differences and encourages creativity and innovation.
- Contribute to the review of existing practices and promoting change where required.
Skills and Experience
- Certificate 4 in Allied Health Assistance or equivalent.
- Experience in an acute patient care setting working with patients with complex clinical presentations.
- Experience providing assessment, treatment/intervention and education to patients and/or patient groups.
- High-level communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical strength, flexibility, and endurance sufficient for manual handling of patients and equipment.
