About the role

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of high-quality occupational therapy services to children presenting with developmental, medical, surgical, orthopaedic and chronic conditions and their families.  Services may be provided to inpatients, outpatients or at outreach locations.

Key duties of the role

  • Deliver high quality occupational therapy services to patients presenting with developmental, medical, surgical, orthopaedic and chronic conditions in consultation with relevant others
  • Contribute to the development of Occupational Therapy as a profession at WCHN
  • Contribute to the effective and professional functioning of the Occupational Therapy Service
  • Provide a learning environment for students, colleagues and the WCHN community
  • Act as a resource person within an area based on knowledge, experience and skills.

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification, which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
  • Knowledge of relevant Paediatric Occupational Therapy theories and models
  • Experience with assessment, treatment and providing advice in the area of infant development, occupational performance in pre-school and school age children including sensory processing, orthopaedic upper limb and chronic conditions
  • Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
