About the role
The Head of Ultrasound is responsible for the efficient operational management of the Ultrasound Unit, ensuring services are delivered safely, effectively and in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and professional standards. This role provides strategic and operational leadership through the planning, coordination and management of physical and human resources, supporting the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services that meet the needs of patients and the broader health service.
You will foster a culture of professional excellence within the Unit, promoting best practice, continuous improvement and clinical governance. The position also champions the development of research and education activities, supporting professional growth for all staff and strengthening the Unit’s contribution to evidence-based practice and innovation. This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape service delivery while inspiring excellence in patient care and professional development.
About You
You are an experienced and accredited Ultrasound professional with the leadership capability to guide a high-performing clinical team. With extensive postgraduate experience and a strong record in medical imaging, you combine clinical expertise with contemporary management skills. You are committed to quality improvement, safety and professional excellence, and bring the confidence to lead change, motivate staff and work effectively across all levels of the organisation.

Qualifications & Accreditation – Postgraduate Ultrasound qualification and current registration as an Accredited Medical Sonographer with the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR).

Clinical & Leadership Expertise – Extensive postgraduate clinical experience in Ultrasound, with demonstrated capability in clinical management including planning, supervision, delegation, performance development and decision making.

Quality, Safety & Governance Knowledge – Strong understanding of Quality Improvement principles, accreditation and quality assurance processes, public sector management standards, Equal Opportunity and Work Health and Safety legislation, and risk management frameworks.

Operational & Systems Capability – Experience in policy development and implementation, rostering and workforce coordination, assessment of imaging techniques, and application of clinical information systems including PACS, PAS and RIS, alongside proficiency in Microsoft applications.
