About the role
The Diabetes Nurse Consultant provides expert diabetes nursing care for children and adolescents, offering advanced clinical leadership, independent decision‑making, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The Nurse Consultant delivers specialised assessments, therapeutic interventions, and guidance to improve patient outcomes.
Key duties of the role
- Provide nursing care, select and implement different therapeutic interventions, and provide individual case management.
- Undertake the role with a significant degree of independent clinical decision making.
- Effective complex discharge planning / hospital avoidance through education, equipment, and referral.
- Maintain productive working relationships and manage conflict resolution.
- Provide leadership, acts a role model, mentor, and resource person.
Skills and Experience
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
- Registered Nurse and or Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience.
- Demonstrated competence in the relevant area of nursing.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet set timelines.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
