Flinders Medical Centre is the southern area's largest hospital and provides medical services for people living in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide. 

As an Acute Surgical Registrar, you will be responsible for teaching junior medical officers, and medical students. You will have the opportunity to attend weekly tutorials as a part of the general surgical training program and attend the monthly General Surgical Club. You will undertake 6 months in the following rotations: Acute Surgical Registrar - Rotating between nights, off, days - 13 hour shifts; you will then have the choice of Colorectal, HepatoPancreatoBiliary, Breast & Endocrine or Berri Service Registrar.  

 

About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Unit, General Surgery and the Director Clinical Training, some of your duties as the Acute Surgical Registrar may involve: 

  • Providing a high quality clinical service under then direction of the Director of General Surgery and Head of Units.
  • Assessing and managing surgical patients admitted via the Emergency Department in an appropriate timeframe. 
  • Ensuring effective communication with other care providers to promote the continuity of patient care.
  • Providing a consultative service to other units as required. 
  • Undertaking quality improvement activities, coordinated care processes and research activities as required. 
  • Providing after-hours care to general surgical patients as the Junior Registrar as per the published after hours on call roster for Flinders Medical Centre and supervise the RMO. 

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. 
  • Registered with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration. 
  • Successful completion of the GSSE. 
  • Minimum of 3 years post graduate medical experience (PGY3+).
  • Working towards application to Surgical Education Training with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
  • Completed rotations in ICU & ED. 
  • Preferably completed EMST, Ccrisp and ASSET course. 
  • Commitment to clinical audit.
