TQEH offers a large tertiary gastroenterology department with both inpatients, outpatients and advanced endoscopic services. The IBD service manages approximately 1,000 patients (including regional SA and NT), including 400 receiving advanced therapies. The unit boasts a strong clinical trials program as well as a GENIUS and IBUS-accredited intestinal ultrasound (IUS) service.

Eligible applicants will have completed 2 years of core gastroenterology advanced training.
The IBD unit includes:
• 6 IBD consultants
• 3 IBD nurses, 5 clinical trials nurses
• 1 IBD dietitian
• 2 gastroenterology advanced trainees, 1 IBD research fellow
• 1 research scientist
Fellowship Experience
• 1 IBD clinic per week
• 1 IUS clinic per week
• 1 rapid-access emergency IBD-IUS clinic per week
• 1 endoscopy list per week, with additional lists available as requested
• Responsibility for coordinating the fortnightly IBD MDT
• Opportunity to attend quarterly outreach clinics in Alice Springs Hospital
• Participation in the emergency endoscopy on-call roster
• General gastroenterology clinic
• Research involvement is encouraged, with opportunities to undertake an independent research project and contribute to ongoing clinical trials

About the Role

Advance your Gastroenterology career in a specialised Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship. You'll help lead inpatient care, build research capability, support clinical trials and develop expertise while working alongside experienced specialists in a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist Gastroenterology and IBD care
• Coordinate inpatient consult services and referrals
• Support IBD clinical trials and participant care
• Contribute to research across Gastroenterology and Hepatology
• Guide Resident Medical Officers and medical students
• Collaborate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams
• Liaise with pathology, radiology, theatre and Emergency teams
• Build strong partnerships with referrers and health services
• Provide compassionate support to patients and families
• Maintain high clinical standards and best-practice care

About You

You are a motivated medical professional who brings strong clinical skills, a collaborative approach and a passion for delivering outstanding patient care.

• MBBS or equivalent with AHPRA registration eligibility
• Apply sound clinical judgement in acute care settings
• Build trusted relationships with patients and colleagues
• Guide and support junior staff and medical trainees
• Communicate clearly and work well across hospital teams
