About the role
The Administrative Assistant provides confidential and professional administrative support to the Michael Rice Centre for Haematology and Oncology. The position manages enquiries, telephone and paging systems, provides a front-line reception to the department, and ensures prompt referral of patient welfare matters.
Key duties of the role
- Provide a front-line reception service to the department
- Empathetic and prompt management of enquiries, both face to face and over the telephone
- Coordinate ingoing and outgoing phone calls.
- Process billings for all appointments using department system.
- Providing appropriate support to patients, relatives and visitors.
Skills and Experience
- Working independently and within a team environment with the ability to confidently contribute to the team goals and outcomes.
- Maintaining sensitive and confidential information and understanding the principles of confidentiality.
- Ability to work under limited direction with competing priorities in an adverse, high workflow environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with consumers, staff, external agencies and members of the public.
- Utilise judgement to respond to difficult situations with tact, diplomacy and empathy.
