WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?

The Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Emergency Department is seeking excellent ACEM trainees, GP and RG trainees, CICM trainees and general trainees who wish to gain rural Emergency Department experience. Mount Barker is a rapidly growing township 33km from the Adelaide CBD. We currently see 35,000 patients per year, with an interesting rural case mix, which includes approximately 25% paediatrics. Our consultant faculty is made up of both FACEMs and Rural Generalist GPs. We provide a great training environment for both junior doctors and advanced trainees, with solid supervision and protected formal teaching time on site.

For ACEM trainees, our department is accredited with ACEM for Paediatric Log Book / PER, TS4 and 12 months of ED training. ACEM trainees can access the Statewide Primary and Fellowship teaching programs (to which our consultants contribute) and our exam success rates so far have been quite good. For ACEM TS4 trainees, we offer an opportunity to make a high level contribution to our department and paid non clinical time can be negotiated for TS4 projects in your area of interest.

We are classified as a rural ED (Modified Monash 3) and hence meet both the ACEM RRR and CICM requirements for rural terms.

For GP trainees, a full year with us provides the requisite exposure to meet the requirements of the ACRRM Advanced Specialised Training in Emergency Medicine (ACRRM AST EM) and FRACGP-RG ARST requirements. You will also be able to complete your paediatric logbook requirement. We strongly encourage successful GP candidates to enrol in a formal ACEM Associateship qualification such as the AEMTP, and we provide appropriate support to complete this.

Working at Mt Barker Emergency Department you will have the option to live in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Otherwise, it is a very manageable commute from the Eastern suburbs of Adelaide.

We look forward to working with you!
