About the position

La Trobe University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences is expanding its research in Global Security and seeks to appoint a full-time (1.0 FTE) Research Fellow. The successful candidate will work with senior colleagues to develop a research agenda aligned with the School’s strategy and priorities.

Global Security covers national, defence, economic, health, information, technology, climate, and environmental issues. We invite applications from a range of social science and humanities disciplines, including politics, international relations, strategic studies, sociology, history, economics, and area studies. Expertise in Asia and/or the Pacific is highly valued.

The successful applicant will contribute to research excellence, apply for external funding, and build partnerships across government, industry, civil society, and the private sector, bridging academic, policy, and public domains on key security issues.

 

 

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent qualifications or research experience, in politics, international relations, strategic studies, communications, sociology, history, economics, area studies or other relevant discipline.
  • A record of publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of strong research potential in the broad area of Global Security.
  • Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both orally and in writing.
  • High level organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.
