Bendigo Tech School is a cutting-edge learning hub dedicated to equipping students from local schools with vital skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). By integrating the latest technologies such as virtual reality, robotics, and 3D printing into immersive programs, the school prepares students for the evolving demands of the global economy. Its mission centers on developing students’ enterprise capabilities including digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, thereby enhancing future job prospects.

Supporting both students and teachers, Bendigo Tech School provides access to innovative programs, professional development, and opportunities for hands-on learning alongside local industries and La Trobe University. The school fosters a culture of innovation through strong partnerships with schools, businesses, and educational institutions. Its objectives include engaging learning experiences, collaborations that inform career pathways, and creative environments that encourage students to solve real-world challenges. Programs are available for Years 7 to 12, along with after-school activities and design challenges.

The Senior STEAM Educator at Bendigo Tech School will play a central role in developing, delivering, and evaluating cutting-edge learning programs in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Working under the Head of Programs, this role will facilitate both onsite and online experiences for students and educators, manage resources, and model exemplary teaching practices. Responsibilities also include supervising or mentoring teachers, leading curriculum development, and collaborating with partner schools and industry to create and improve innovative educational content.

Beyond teaching, the role supports a culture of continuous learning through professional development, community engagement, and communications strategies such as newsletters and public events. This role will also help implement safety processes and uphold ethical standards, particularly in the use of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and productive environment is key, as is contributing to the broader strategic goals and values of the tech school.

Essential Criteria

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • An Undergraduate degree (or higher) in any of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Arts or Technology disciplines AND Post Graduate level qualifications in Education;
    OR
    An Undergraduate degree (or higher) in Education AND Post Graduate level qualifications in any of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Arts or Technology disciplines.
  • A minimum of 8 years secondary teaching experience in STEAM based disciplines. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity to work collaboratively and co-operatively in small teams.
  • Proven communication skills, including excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Highly organised and problem-solving abilities with the ability to manage competing priorities and concurrent projects.
  • VIT Registration

Highly desirable:

  • Experience in the development and delivery of programs aligned to Design Thinking, digital technologies, enterprise skills and capabilities.
  • Expertise utilising a range of high-end, digital design production technologies in fields such as but not limited to Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Realities, Robotics and Programming, Advanced Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Online Broadcasting, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Rapid Prototyping.
