About the position

The Department of Languages and Cultures in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a lecturer in Greek Studies. The appointee will teach undergraduate subjects in Greek language as well as potentially contributing to cultural subjects in the European languages.

The Department of Languages and Cultures includes the disciplines of Asian Studies, Classics and Ancient History, Creative Writing, English, Languages (Auslan, Chinese, French, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Spanish), Linguistics and Visual Arts; covering a rich diversity of disciplines that fosters a deep engagement with society and culture.

Duties at this level will include:

  • Coordinate and teach subjects providing a high-quality learning experience that engages students through the conduct of lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or other sessions in online, blended or face-to-face modes.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness by taking an evidence-based approach to evaluate learning and teaching initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a scholarly approach to learning and teaching by contributing to La Trobe’s SOLT including sharing of good practice.
  • Provide constructive, fair and timely feedback on learning to students.
  • Lead and implement teaching improvement projects at subject, course or discipline level.
  • Undertake other duties and administrative functions commensurate with the classification and scope of the position as required by the Head of Department or Dean.

In particular this will involve:

  • Coordination, teaching and marking in GST2003, GST2004 and European Languages cultural subjects as directed by the Head of Department.

 Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • PhD degree or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, in face-to-face, blended and/or online modes.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in subject coordination.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in curriculum development in face-to-face, blended and/or online modes.
