About the position

La Trobe University is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader as Professor of Allied Health Research in a joint role with Austin Health.

This five-year, fixed-term appointment represents a strategic partnership between La Trobe University and Austin Health to advance world-leading translational allied health research. The position will play a critical leadership role in strengthening research capability, fostering innovation, and delivering impact for patients, clinicians, and communities.

The successful candidate will be employed by La Trobe University and primarily based at Austin Health, working across both organisations to build research capacity and drive collaboration.

Key responsibilities

The Professor will provide strategic leadership and deliver high-impact research aligned to the priorities of both organisations. Specifically, the role will:

· Conduct and lead internationally recognised research, in an area that is clinically relevant to Austin Health, including securing competitive grant funding and producing high-quality publications

· Build research capacity and capability among allied health clinicians, including mentoring, training and HDR supervision

· Strengthen collaborative research partnerships between Austin Health and La Trobe University

· Drive the translation of research into practice, delivering measurable improvements in patient care and service delivery

· Contribute to the governance and leadership of allied health research across both organisations

About you

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

· A PhD and a distinguished, internationally recognised research track record in an allied health discipline

· An outstanding record of research publications and competitive grant success

· Proven leadership in building research teams and mentoring researchers

· A strong record of HDR supervision to completion

· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders including industry, health services and academic partners

· An established national and international reputation in your field

This role is jointly funded by La Trobe University and Austin Health and supports a shared commitment to:

· Advancing translational allied health research

· Embedding research in clinical practice

· Delivering improved outcomes for patients and health systems

Details of the appointment

· Level: Academic Level E (Research Only)

· Employment type: Full-time (minimum 0.8 FTE), fixed term

· Duration: 5 years (1 July 2026 – 30 June 2031) or from date of commencement

· Location: Primarily based at Austin Health, with engagement at La Trobe University, Bundoora

· Employer: La Trobe University
