About the role
Join our dynamic Spot Trading team as a Senior Energy Trader, where your expertise will drive the optimization of our wholesale portfolio across the Australian physical electricity and gas markets. Located in our Sydney office, you will play a crucial role in overseeing day-to-day trading activities and implementing strategies while adhering to our commitment to safety and compliance.
In this role, you'll join either the gas or electricity trading team on a balanced 24/7 shift roster. We prioritise work-life balance by avoiding long periods of shift work and offering the flexibility to work from home during night shifts. Additionally, our traders participate in exciting projects during standard work hour project days, providing unique opportunities to make an impact.

What you'll do
- Manage and optimise power and gas positions to meet portfolio objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and market regulations.
- Implement effective short-term trading strategies and manage commodity market risk exposures.
- Ensure compliance with legislative and governance requirements while keeping abreast of industry developments.
- Develop and deliver on portfolio goals, monitoring market conditions and assessing implications for trading strategies.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency.
Your experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in business, engineering, mathematics, or a quantitative discipline.
- Over 5 years of experience in energy markets, particularly within the Australian physical electricity and gas sectors.
- Knowledge of trading systems, processes, and power generation technologies.
- Experience in optimising short-term cross-commodity portfolios.
- Familiarity with AFMA accreditations and industry best practices (desirable)
