Join our innovative Data & AI team as a Lead Data Engineer – Retail, reporting to the Data Engineering Manager. This role is based in our Melbourne office and plays a key part in shaping the future of our Azure-hosted data and analytics environment.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you’ll combine technical leadership with hands-on engineering, driving the development of scalable data solutions and mentoring a team of talented engineers. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, and governance teams to ensure our data platforms are robust, compliant, and future-ready.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the design and development of metadata-driven ELT/ETL frameworks.
• Building and optimising data pipelines across Azure Data Lake.
• Creating and maintaining data models to support analytics and operational systems.
• Embedding DevOps practices to automate and monitor deployments.
• Developing robust monitoring and alerting frameworks.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to prioritise and deliver high-impact data solutions.
• Supporting the uplift of legacy infrastructure into modern cloud platforms.

This role requires:

• 10+ years of experience delivering commercial data solutions.
• Deep expertise in Databricks, Python, Scala or Java, and big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Kafka).
• Proven experience in metadata-based ELT design and data modelling (e.g., Kimball, Data Vault).
• Strong DevOps/SRE mindset and experience with agile delivery.
• Demonstrated leadership in coaching, mentoring, and team development.
• Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable qualifications include:

• Microsoft Azure or Databricks certifications.
• Experience with MLOps, Infrastructure as Code, and model deployment workflows.
