About the area
The ARC-funded Centre for Critical Resources for the Future (CCRF) is located within the School of Earth and Oceans at the University of Western Australia (UWA). The Centre collaborates across academia, industry, and government to address research challenges related to critical minerals. The Data to Knowledge Program plays a transformative role by generating insights for evidence-based geosciences, while providing training for the geoscientists of tomorrow. This cross-disciplinary research associate position will be hosted by the School of Physics, Mathematics, and Computing (PMC) at UWA. The PMC School has a strong tradition of world-leading research in computer vision, mathematical physics, data science and quantum measurement.

- Lead interdisciplinary geoscience research, developing innovative data platforms and collaborating with academics, researchers, and industry.
- Supervise students, drive cross-disciplinary initiatives, and publish high-impact research.
- Engage with industry and government, contributing to governance and promoting inclusion and diversity.
About you
- PhD qualification in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in deep learning and large language model research, joint modality representation learning, knowledge graph construction, particularly in the context of spatial-temporal data analysis (ideally with geoscience applications).
- Proven ability to design, train and implement joint modality deep learning representation learning models by integrating heterogenous datasets for geoscience research.
- Strong research track record, evidenced by contributions to research outputs in peer-reviewed journals or similar high-impact scholarly publications.
- Experience supervising research students or mentoring early-career researchers.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or significantly contribute to collaborative, cross-disciplinary projects.
- Capacity to develop and deliver training materials for research teams, focusing on data science and machine learning techniques in geoscience.
