  • Part-time (0.4 FTE) appointment, fixed term for 12 months.
  • Base salary range: $91,833 – $97,052 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area
The Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) is UWA’s core facility for scientific imaging and analytical technologies, supporting researchers from across the University and industry. Home to the WA node of Microscopy Australia, CMCA houses an array of platforms including electron and optical microscopy, mass spectrometry, and magnetic resonance. The Optical Microscopy facility provides access to cutting-edge wide-field, confocal, multi-photon, and super-resolution microscopy instruments, supporting a range of disciplines from cell biology to engineering.

About the opportunity

  • Deliver hands-on training and technical support for users of the CMCA’s optical microscopy facilities, particularly in confocal imaging.
  • Maintain and service light microscopy instruments and provide guidance in sample preparation and image analysis.
  • Collaborate with users and contribute to workshops, training sessions, and pilot data generation.

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in a physical or biological science, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in confocal and other light microscopy techniques.
  • Strong background in biological sample preparation, including fluorescence labelling and histology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience training and supervising students.
  • Knowledge of microscope maintenance procedures and image processing tools.

Special Requirements

  • Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required.
