Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.


Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Center for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for two Postdoctoral positions for research under the supervision of Dr. Jiaqi Gong. This position is funded by the National Science Foundation and AI center. The successful candidates will have a one-year appointment (with the potential to be extended) with the Alabama Center for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.

Leads the forefront of research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, focusing on applications within the healthcare, education, and environment sectors. Designs generative AI techniques and algorithms for data integration and computational models, with objectives to amplify creative learning experiences in classrooms and fortify the resilience of rural communities to health and environmental crises. Devises frameworks for data modernization, consolidating metadata and other various sets of data to prepare databases for cross-disciplinary AI research and learning. Incorporates open knowledge graph networks. Takes the lead in drafting scientific papers and technical documents, presenting research findings, and aiding in the formulation of proposals for external funding.

The College and/or the Computer Science Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science or other related areas.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong programming/scripting capabilities. Skills in data science, artificial intelligence, large language models, and high-performance computing. Strong written and verbal communication skills regarding research results.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with generative AI deep learning and active involvement in data science and machine learning projects. Experience in neural network architecture, cloud computing, and database development and management. Background in computational modeling and machine learning.
