Normal Work Schedule: Varies; Monday – Friday 7:00am to 5:30pm, at least 20 hours per week.

Job Summary: The Afternoon Assistant Teacher communicates with lead teachers information about the day, asks questions, and seeks to know children of the class. Assists children getting up, rolls up napmats, and opens snack. Engages with children socially, emotionally and through play in classroom, gym and playground areas. Works with co-teachers in assisting one another throughout the afternoon. Supervises children in play ensuring safety, health, and positive social interactions. Communicates with parents by greeting them and sharing positive information about their child's afternoon. Ensures children are constantly with the group. Maintains safe play spaces.


Additional Department Summary: Bends and lifts small children. Sweeps, wipes down tables, and takes out trash. Sit in small chairs on the floor. Stands, runs, and plays with young children.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age. At least a High school Diploma. Must have initiative and desire to assist children in a group setting. Must have experience caring for children, infants to five years of age (including diaper changing, potty training/assistance). Must have a team mentality. Effective communication skills is a must as talking with co-teachers, directing staff, and families is a daily requirement.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with children, infants to five years of age in group setting. Child Development, Child Life, and Education majors. Understanding of Child Development birth to five years of age. Ability to engage with children in play. Assist children with social, mental, and emotional growth. Ability to pay attention and ensure the health and safety of the children.
