Job Summary: The Student Security Operations Center Analyst, within UA OIT Security, supports the UA Security Operations Center (SOC). Detects and responds to security related events. Leverages relevant tools, technologies, processes, and procedures. Ensures the safe and secure operation of UA systems and networks. Responds to information security incidents and alerts. Monitors security events, alerts, and logs from various security systems. Investigates and triages security incidents to determine the severity, scope, and impact. Follows established incident response procedures and playbooks to mitigate and resolve incidents in a timely manner. Maintains accurate and detailed documentation related to security event analysis, actions taken, and resolutions for each event. Triages tickets. Additional information security tasks as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Working knowledge of the Windows operating system. Please list your availability when applying. Student must be available a minimum of 12 hours per week.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong written and spoken communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with IT Support, security monitoring, or incident detection and response. Knowledge of scripting languages and data analysis tools such as Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL).
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
