Normal Work Schedule: Varies; Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm, up to 20 hours a week.
Job Summary: The Graduate Assistant supports the Office of Disability Services on a variety of administrative and accessibility-related tasks. Answers phones, reviews student information, and monitors emails from instructors. Reviews Blackboard for video content. Submits videos for closed captioning. Ensures accessibility compliance. Returns captioned videos to instructors.
Additional Department Summary: This position will also assist with reviewing and remediating documents (PDFs, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and writing image descriptions. This position will also provide additional support to the office, as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama graduate student.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong written and verbal and communication skills. Strong computer skills, including but not limited to, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe. Ability to work independently. Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Abbyy FineReader.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
