Job Summary: The Student Assistant serves as the first point of contact at the Smart Communities & Innovation Building reception desk. This individual engages, organizes, and supports a wide range of projects for the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI). 

Provides general information and guidance to students, faculty, staff, and guests. Monitors the reception area. Maintains a welcoming environment. Assists in collecting and maintaining current data on research activities. Handles light clerical work such as data entry.

Assists staff with research, communications, and administrative tasks. Provides event support, including preparation, setup, and day-of logistics. Contributes to special projects and other duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current student at The University of Alabama in good academic standing.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently. Comfortable learning new tools and supporting a variety of tasks.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace). Familiarity with research reporting, grant writing support, or data visualization.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
