Generation Unlimited is a global multi-sector partnership created to meet the urgent need for expanded education, skill development, employment, and engagement opportunities for young people aged 10-24 years.

By bridging secondary-age education and training to employment and entrepreneurship, Generation Unlimited (GenU) will support every young people to thrive in the world of work and become productive problem solvers and engaged members of society.

GenU identifies and co-creates country investment opportunities – programs, models, and innovations at a large scale – supported by public-private partnerships to attract and crowd in resources.

As an accelerator for scale and for better education and skills development, entrepreneurship, employment, digital accessibility and connectivity and positive engagement outcomes, GenU contributes to operationalizing the UN Strategy on Youth (2030) and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. GenU aims to modernize secondary education and training to build the skills young people need for productive lives and work and increase the number of quality work opportunities available to youth.   A global board was formed to drive GenU forward and encourage the world to achieve the UN Youth 2030 strategy. Through public-private partnerships, GenU works at highest levels of government to attract investment at global and national levels to support country roadmaps and make effective programmes grow to accelerate results for millions of young people. GenU scales innovations by brokering shared-value partnerships with the private sector in areas such as digital connectivity, remote learning and work, entrepreneurship, portable certification, job-matching platforms, mental health and the green economy. In the context of the repercussions of COVID-19 on the global socioeconomic conditions, this work is now more important than ever, to ensure continued learning for young people, as well as supporting them in developing their skills and finding job opportunities, which can sustain their livelihoods and help mitigate the economic impact of the crisis.

GenU was launched at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in 2018 - by January 2022 Generation Unlimited was launched in Egypt in the World Youth Forum in Sharm El Sheikh under the auspices of the President of Egypt under the name Shabab Balad.

The GenU model is Government led and supported by the convening and technical function of the UN System, The private sector, NGOs. youth themselves are key stakeholders. Shabab Balad appointed a number of young celebrities and sports champions as Shabab Balad Ambassadors to actively support SB, amplify messaging and maximize visibility among youth at the community at large. 

SB works in 5 pillars: Education, Employment & Entrepreneurship, Training & Skilling, Connectivity and Digital Accessibility, and Youth Engagement.

How can you make a difference? 

You will report to the Programme Manager (GenU), who is at NOD level to ensure close guidance and supervision.

You will provide professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for GenU activities through the application of theoretical and technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting technical programme information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support GenU programmes as part of ensuring delivering GenU objectives.

This position is a temporary position that will focus on a major new partnership focused on achieving impact on climate and employment for and by young people. The role of GenU in the new partnership will be to provide strategic coordination for the work and this job will provide a range of support for the coordination, which will include managing committee meetings, partner liaison, communications and outreach to stakeholders involved in young people’s impact on addressing climate change and young people’s employment.

1- Development and planning

  •  Research and analyze national youth, employment economic development trends. Collect, analyze, verify, and synthesize information to facilitate GenU activities.
  • Support preparation of technical reports and provide inputs for programme preparation and documentation ensuring accuracy, timeliness and relevancy of information.
  • Contribute to the development of GenU goals, objectives, strategies, and results-based planning through research, collection, analysis and reporting of education and other related information for development planning and priority and goal setting.
  • Provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of programming processes by executing and administering a variety of technical programme transactions, preparing materials and documentations, and complying with organizational processes and management systems, to support programme planning, results-based planning (RBM) and monitoring and evaluation of results.
  • In close coordination with the UNICEF Egypt Advocacy and Communications section, ensure the successful implementation of agreed outputs in the partnership communications plan. This includes managing high-level advocacy events and media engagement, coordinating content and stories from the field and strategic dissemination through various digital channels. Ensure that these efforts adhere to the guidelines and principles of UNICEF, Gen-U, and partners, including standards for branding and visibility.

2- Monitoring and delivery of results

  • Work closely and collaboratively with internal colleagues and partners to collect, analyze and share information on implementation issues.
  • Suggest solutions on routine programme implementation and submit reports to alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level intervention and/or decisions. Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews and annual sectoral reviews with government and other counterparts and prepare minutes/reports on results for follow up action by higher management and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare draft inputs for programme/donor reporting.

3- Coordination, networking and partnership building

  •  Coordinate and lead preparation and set up of Shabab Balad Advisory Board meetings and Coalition meetings and related communications activities. This would include committee meetings that focus on the new employment and climate partnership.
  • Communications and visibility in coordination with the Communications and Advocacy Section
  • Coordinate between programmes, Partnership and Advocacy and Communications sections, Partnership Steering Committee, GenU Consultant and GenU Manager on Silatech/ROTA partnership on reporting and progress monitoring
  • Undertake field visits and surveys and share information with stakeholders to assess progress and refer to relevant officials for resolution. Report on critical issues, bottlenecks and potential problems for timely action to achieve results.
  • Networking with stakeholders, particularly the private sector companies in coordination with the Private Sector Partnership Section
  • Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners, private sector and youth partners and other country office partners/donors on the application and understanding of UNICEF policies, strategies, processes and best practices.
  • Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with Shabab Balad Advisory Board members, Shabab Balad Coalition members, government counterparts and national stakeholders (including private sector and youth partners) through active sharing of information and knowledge to facilitate programme implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to achieve and sustain results on education programmes.
  • Draft communication and information materials for CO programme advocacy to promote awareness, establish partnerships and alliances, and support GenU.
  • In coordination with UNICEF CO Partnership team, Research information on potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials and briefs for fund raising and partnership development purposes.
  • Coordinate and support the Shabab Balad Advisory Board and Shabab Balad Coalition meetings and follow up actions
  • Support and coordinate the Silatech/ROTA Steering committee meeting and follow up plans.

 4- Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

  •  Provide support in identifying, capturing, synthesizing, and sharing lessons learned for knowledge development and capacity development of stakeholders.
  • Apply innovative approaches and promote good practices to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results.
  • Research, benchmark and report on best and cutting-edge practices for development planning of knowledge products and systems.
  • Participate as a resource person in capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients and stakeholders.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

A university degree in one of the following fields is required: Public Policy, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.

 Work Experience: 

  • Minimum of one year experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in community work is required.

 Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Specific skills Required:

  • Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, organizational, planning and prioritizing skills and abilities.
  • High sense of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment.

Desirables:

  • Experience in engaging and coordinating boards and other forms of governance structures are considered an assets.
  • Previous experience in managing international funds for programming is an asset
  • Prior experience in programme support functions is an asset.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
