UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, support

UNICEF Lao PDR Country Office works closely with government and civil society partners to promote the rights of every child, ensuring equitable access to essential social services. Social Policy programming aims to strengthen national policies and systems to better serve disadvantaged children, as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Under the Social Policy Section’s second programmatic output, UNICEF supports national and sub-national governments in strengthening their capacity to design, deliver, and monitor equity-focused, child-centered, and comprehensive social protection policies and programs. A key initiative includes the implementation of the Disability Child Grant, which provides financial support to vulnerable children with disabilities. To enhance future interventions, a stocktake of lessons learned from this implementation is critical.

To assist in this effort, the section is recruiting an intern to support documentation of lessons learned, contribute to social protection research and analysis, conduct human interest stories, and provide general assistance to the section’s work.

The intern will support UNICEF Lao PDR’s Social Policy Section by assisting in the review of disability-inclusive social protection programming, particularly the Disability Child Grant implementation. The intern will also contribute to broader social protection initiatives, ensuring effective knowledge management and coordination.

How can you make a difference?

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Social Policy, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Conduct a stocktake of lessons learned from the implementation of the Disability Child Grant, identifying key successes, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Support data collection and documentation related to social protection interventions, ensuring that findings inform future policy and programming.
  • Assist in synthesizing evidence, reports, and studies on child-sensitive social protection in Lao PDR.
  • Conduct human interest stories by interviewing beneficiaries of the Disability Child Grant to document their experiences, challenges, and impact of the program.
  • Draft meeting minutes, reports, and policy briefs summarizing key social protection discussions and findings.
  • Assist in general administrative tasks related to the section’s work, including organizing resources and tracking ongoing projects.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as economics, social science, public administration, statistics, or another discipline pertinent to the position.
  • Proficiency in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages, particularly English, at a working knowledge level.
  • Familiar with and understand Lao national and/or economic development issues.
  • Familiar with multi-culture environment would be an asset.
  • Awareness about gender issues.
